This study will examine the genes of certain fats and proteins and determine if there is a difference in the way the fats and proteins are broken down in specific ethnic groups. We hope to determine if having these types of proteins and fats in your blood can be a risk factor for heart disease.

Who can participate:
· We will be recruiting 100 African-American families and 100 Caucasian families
· Each family must have 2 natural parents and 2 natural off-spring over the age of 6 (adult children are welcome).

What will parents and their off-spring have to do?
· We will ask you to come to the Sacramento VA Medical Center in Mather for a study visit
· We will ask you about your medical history
· We will perform a physical exam
· We will draw your blood (approximately 4 teaspoons)
· We will compensate each family member $50 for his/her time and travel
